Our 2009 Keynote, David F. Cargo began his legislative career in the New Mexico State House of Representatives from 1963-1967, then served two terms as the Governor of New Mexico from 1967-1971. As Governor, David Cargo founded the New Mexico Film Commission, the first of its kind nationwide, which brought Hollywood film production to New Mexico. Continuing a tradition of governors who act, David Cargo played roles in several films such as The Gatling Gun (1973), Bunny O'Hare (1971), and Up in the Cellar (1971) about a student poet who seduces his college president's wife, daughter, and girlfriend over lost financial aid. Gov. Cargo holds a B.A., M.A., and law degree from the University of Michigan. He has recently served on the Republicans for Environmental Protection's (REP) Honorary Board and served on the Executive Committee of REP's New Mexico Chapter.
